The Lake District, beyond the usual roads
A full-day driving experience created to explore a different side of the Lakes - combining challenging green lanes, spectacular scenery, great food and the hospitality of Langdale Chase.
Beginning with breakfast overlooking Lake Windermere, the experience takes guests beyond the familiar routes and into the fells for a carefully planned combination of off-road driving and some of the Lake District’s finest roads.

The Lake District Off-Road Experience has been created for those who want to use their 4×4 for what it was built to do.
Approximately half of the route follows genuine green lanes, with the remaining half taking in some of the region’s best driving roads. Along the way, the landscape shifts between remote valleys, open fells and rocky off-road sections that most visitors never experience.
Following a full day behind the wheel, the pace changes completely at Langdale Chase, with welcome drinks, canapés, a three-course dinner and an overnight stay beside Lake Windermere.
Accommodation and pricing
Single occupancy - £1,495
One vehicle and one guest. One room at Langdale Chase.
Double or twin occupancy - £1,650
One vehicle and two guests. Choice of a double or twin room at Langdale Chase.
Optional Defender 90 hire - £380
An older Land Rover Defender 90 can be arranged for the full driving day.

Meet your fellow guests over breakfast while enjoying views across Lake Windermere.
Into the fells
Leave Langdale Chase and begin a carefully planned route through the Lake District.
Green lanes and great roads
Spend the morning exploring a route made up of approximately 50% green lanes and 50% outstanding Lake District driving roads.
Open-fire lunch in the hills
Stop high in the hills for an open-fire cooking experience, turning lunch into a memorable part of the adventure. Should the Lake District weather make outdoor cooking impractical, we’ll switch plans and enjoy lunch at one of our recommended local pubs instead.
An afternoon off-road
Return to the lanes for an afternoon of rocky sections, loose surfaces, changing landscapes and remote valleys.
Return to Langdale Chase
Arrive back at the hotel, park the cars and take time to relax before the evening begins.
