Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, an all-electric four-door grand tourer introducing a new generation of vehicles for the British marque, with up to 1,030 PS and a striking new approach to design.
Revealed in New York on 6 October, the Jaguar Type 01 is designed, engineered and built in the UK.
Jaguar describes it as the most powerful and technologically advanced road car in its history, with orders opening in early 2027 and first customer deliveries expected in the second half of the year.
A new interpretation of the Jaguar grand tourer
A long bonnet, low roofline and sleek silhouette give the Type 01 its defining proportions.
While the car introduces a new design direction, Jaguar draws a connection to the E-type and XJS — two models that established their own distinctive interpretations of performance and grand touring.
The Type 01 is the first production Jaguar built on Jaguar Electric Architecture, known as JEA.
Developed specifically for the brand’s next generation of electric vehicles, the platform gives its designers and engineers greater freedom over the car’s proportions, packaging and occupant experience.
Its name also connects past and future. “Type” acknowledges Jaguar’s predecessors, “0” refers to zero tailpipe emissions and “1” identifies the first vehicle in this new generation.
Electric performance with grand touring ambitions
Beneath the bodywork, an 850-volt electrical architecture supports up to 1,030 PS, delivered through a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system.
Jaguar quotes a range of up to 450 miles WLTP, with the ability to add up to 200 miles of range in 13 minutes using 350 kW rapid charging.
The Type 01 is also capable of 0–62 mph in up to 3.2 seconds.
Those figures point towards a car designed not simply for outright electric performance, but for the kind of long-distance driving expected of a true grand tourer.
A premiere shaped by New York
The unveiling extended across New York, with digital displays in Times Square, DUMBO and the Lower East Side preceding the car’s arrival at STORIED in West Chelsea.
Its drive through the city took place on closed roads on the West Side.
Inside the venue, installations explored the development behind the Type 01, from an aluminium interpretation of the designers’ original single line to a body panel illustrating the engineering required to bring its shape into production.
Guests included Florence Pugh, with an intimate performance by British singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro and a culinary programme created by chef Roze Traoré.
A new chapter for Jaguar
The Type 01 is more than the arrival of another electric performance car.
For Jaguar, it represents the first production expression of a much broader transformation of the brand, bringing its new design language, electric architecture and approach to luxury together in a single car.
The proportions are deliberately dramatic. The performance figures are substantial. But the intention remains recognisably grand touring: covering serious distance while making the journey itself part of the experience.
With customer deliveries expected from the second half of 2027, the Type 01 sets the direction for the Jaguars that will follow.
The Arvelo view
A grand tourer should make you want to go somewhere.
That is perhaps the most interesting aspect of the Type 01 from an Arvelo perspective.
Range, charging speed and outright performance matter, but so does whether a car makes the prospect of a long journey feel special.
Jaguar is positioning the Type 01 as exactly that kind of car — one designed around distance, occasion and the experience of getting there.
For a brand entering one of the most significant new chapters in its history, the Type 01 gives us the first real indication of what the next generation of Jaguar could look like on the road.
